I have the honour to apply for the kind assistance of the Government in the matter of registering myself as a British-born subject in the British Consulate at Canton, and to register my infant son, who was born in Macao on the 1st January, 1904.

I am a son of the late Mr. Wong Shing, who was a naturalized British subject and was for six years an Unofficial Member of the Legislative Council in this Colony. I was born in Hongkong and educated in this Colony, America, and England; and was employed in the Registrar-General's Department for about nine years. I obtained a Certificate of my birth from the Colonial Secretary's Office on the ninth day of October, 1897.

On account of business engagements, I have now to reside in Macao with my family, and I wish to be registered there as a British subject.

I called on H. B. M's Vice-Consul, Mr. F. O. Seaton, in Macao last July and applied for registration; but was informed by him that he did not keep a register of British-born subjects, and that should I desire to register myself in Canton, he would communicate with the British Consul-General at that port on my behalf.

About a week afterwards the Vice-Consul informed me that he got a reply from H. B. M's Consul-General in Canton requesting me personally to go up there to see him.

Accordingly I went to Canton in August and
